2027 DIARY Refills: Pick the layout, Not the cover
So you’ve decided to run a 2027 diary in your Regular-size TRAVELER’S notebook. Good. The next choice — which insert — is the one that actually determines whether you’ll still be writing in it come March.
Monthly Refill (Regular)
-One month across two pages, with a note strip along the bottom. Don’t underestimate that bottom strip. The official description suggests reminders or longer-term projects; my read is simpler: it’s just room. If you already keep tasks elsewhere, the Monthly is the cleanest choice. It doesn’t pretend to organize your week, and that quiet can be a relief. If you don’t have a separate task system, the two-page month will start to feel empty — then you’ll start shoving notes and tasks into it, and it becomes something else.
Weekly plus Memo Refill (Regular)
-Left page = dated week. Right page = light-grid memo area. Two books, six months each. The grid is intentionally faint so it won’t fight your handwriting. Important warning: the memo page is not a time planner. If you buy this expecting hourly scheduling, you’ll be disappointed. If you want a weekly view plus a free field for lists, quick notes, pasted bits of ephemera, or things you’ll migrate later, this is the most flexible option. It’s also the one people most often “use wrong” by forcing it into a role it wasn’t made for.
Weekly Vertical Refill (Regular)
-Two-page week with vertical columns, a timeline from 8:00 to 22:00 in 30-minute steps, a small notes area at the bottom, and tiny monthly calendars on the right edge. Two books, six months each. If you time-block, this is your only real Regular-size option — the others don’t offer hours. If you don’t time-block, you’ll end up with half-filled columns that look worse than blank space. Note the 8:00–22:00 range; if your day starts earlier or runs later, consider whether those hours match your life before you commit.
The decision boils down to this: read the layout, not the label. “Weekly” hides a lot — Weekly plus Memo is a week plus a free grid; Weekly Vertical is an hour-by-hour planner. Photogenic product photos can lie; the way a layout handles your actual use will tell the truth.
Who shouldn’t buy these
-If you already have a dated system you trust, adding a 2027 insert because the theme is nice is the fastest route to a Traveler’s notebook full of half-used refills. If you want blank or undated pages for sketching, journaling, or general EDC carry, these dated inserts will fight you. And if you use Passport size, this comparison doesn’t apply — Passport has its own Monthly and Weekly, and no vertical option.
Short, honest guide
-If you time-block: pick Weekly Vertical
-If you mainly take notes, lists, or keep a flexible weekly log: pick Weekly plus Memo
-If you already have a task system and want minimal, month-at-a-glance structure: pick Monthly and use the bottom strip well.
Choose by how you plan, not by which cover art you like. The cover is the thing you’ll stop noticing first; the layout is the thing you’ll live with every day.
